Meeting wild reindeer is not at all easy. Those bred by the Sámi roam like sheep along the roadsides. The wild ones seem elusive. All we knew is that they are out there somewhere, but even climbing the highest mountain and scanning the area with binoculars did not help.

We were incredibly lucky.

During an evening scout in Borgefjell National Park, surrounded by wild mountains interspersed with waterfalls and swamps we went for a light jog to give ourselves some energy.

Suddenly - they where there! A few meters ahead of us!

Two reindeer staring at us with the same bewilderment as we looked at them. Wonderful, surprisingly small, fluffy creatures like from a fairy tale. For a brief moment suspended in time, both we stood staring at each other, completely surprised.

Finally, they were the first to remember that this is not a movie and rushed into the forest with unexpected speed and agility. We could only watch, mouths open as they crossed the fast-flowing stream and disappeared into the thicket.
